There are a number of job sites that feature salary calculators. These calculators show salaries for a certain position at a specific place. Online calculators can help you with more than just computing for salaries. They can also help you choose the right place for the profession you picked.

Do your research

Try various sites such as Dice, Monster, CareerBuilder, HotJobs and Salary.com. These sites offer salary info and comparison.

Your job and location

On these sites you will find fields asking for your position and location. Select your job category or type in your position. Enter your zip code or select the city in which you are working.

Search

After providing the information above, click "search". The average amount being paid to someone of your position in your city will be displayed. You can also get other compensation details from the sites such as incentives, deductions, taxes, etc. You can start comparing these with your own amount.

Survey reports

Some sites also offer survey reports that are conducted by a several organizations and publications on a number of jobs. These survey reports contain information on salaries offered for particular posts according to geographic location.
