Maintaining workplace safety is important especially in trying to make your business more productive. Whenever an employee is absent due to accidents that happen at the workplace, overall productivity is lessened. When productivity is lessened, business suffers.

Creating a safer workplace environment may help contribute to the success of any business. In order to minimize on accidents, it is essential to identify the common hazards at the workplace. Identifying them and finding ways of reducing their occurrence at the workplace can very well help make the work environment safer for employees.

Some of the most common hazards at the workplace are accidental slipping, tripping and falls. These hazards can be due to a lot of things. One of them is having a slippery floor. Although floors may look beautiful when shined and polished often, they also increase the risk of accidental slipping.

Slippery floors account for a lot of accidents on the workplace and it is something that really should be worth taking a closer look. Another cause of slips at the work place is wet floors. A smooth surface when wet can easily become a slipping hazard. This can happen in any area of the workplace where frequent liquid spills take place.

Trips and falls can be caused by anything that may obstruct common walking areas at the workplace. Wires, tools, and other objects can easily become tripping hazards if they are left strewn on the floor. Uneven walking surfaces may also be a cause for accidental trips and falls.

Frequent falls at the workplace occur when people make use of the wrong equipment such as ladders when working at high places. Not considering the use of safety belts as well as using portable ladders the wrong way may cause a lot of accidental falls that may result in serious injuries.

In the office setting, there are also common hazards present. It is common today that a lot of office employees suffer from a number of back injuries as well as wrist problems. This may be a result of using poor office furniture such as chairs and tables. It may not look important for a lot of employers but having the right office furniture may also help curb down office hazards.

An office chair that doesn’t provide ample back support can help contribute to employees suffering from back injuries later on. Prolonged sitting may cause some stress on the lower back and spine, especially if the office chairs do not help in trying to maintain the back’s natural curvature.

Wrist problems occur at the office usually because of the frequent use of the computer. After awhile, employees may be feeling a bit of wrist pain especially if they find themselves working on the computer for hours and hours daily.

This can cause considerable strain on the hand muscles and can cause a variety of ailments such as bursitis, tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Such injuries belong to the list of repetitive motion disorders that usually result in repeated motions brought about by routine that result in inflamed and irritated muscles and tendons.
